MedGuard was inspired by a simple but important problem: many older adults struggle to keep track of their medications, especially when they are taking multiple prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs at once. Missing doses, mixing up instructions, or forgetting when to take a medication can have serious consequences. We wanted to build something that did more than just remind patients what to take—we wanted to help them actually understand and retain their medication instructions.

Our project is a web-based medication support platform designed for elderly users. In the intake section, users enter the medications they take, whether each one is prescription or over the counter, the dosage, frequency, and duration. We also built a callback-style recall feature, where the system asks users to explain how they are supposed to take each medication. This helps reinforce memory while also identifying gaps in understanding. Our goal was to create a tool that improves medication safety, supports independence, and reduces preventable errors.

Building MedGuard taught us a lot about designing for real people, not just technical functionality. We learned that user experience matters even more when building for older adults, so clarity, accessibility, and simplicity became major priorities. We also learned how to think through healthcare workflows more carefully—especially how to balance automation with safety. Instead of just storing medication data, we focused on how to make the information more useful and actionable for the patient.
