Inspiration

Millions of people struggle to understand prescriptions and medical reports because of complex medical terminology and language barriers. We wanted to make healthcare information simple, accessible, and understandable for everyone using AI.

What it does

MedExplaiN AI allows users to upload a prescription, medicine label, or medical report (image or PDF). Using OCR and AI, it extracts the text and generates easy-to-understand explanations, medicine information, dosage guidance, precautions, common side effects, and multilingual summaries. This helps users better understand their health information in seconds.

How we built it

  • Next.js 15
  • TypeScript
  • Tailwind CSS
  • AI-powered document analysis
  • OCR for text extraction
  • Responsive UI
  • Vercel for deployment

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was accurately extracting text from different medical document formats while keeping the explanations simple and user-friendly. We also focused on building a fast, responsive, and intuitive interface within the hackathon timeline.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Built a fully functional AI-powered healthcare web application.
  • Successfully combined OCR with AI for medical document understanding.
  • Created a clean, responsive, and accessible user experience.
  • Delivered a real-world solution with meaningful social impact.

What we learned

This project taught us how AI can make healthcare information more accessible. We also gained valuable experience integrating OCR with AI, optimizing web performance, and designing intuitive user experiences under a tight deadline.

What's next for MedExplaiN AI

Our vision is to transform MedExplaiN AI into a comprehensive healthcare assistant. Future plans include support for more languages, voice explanations, medicine interaction alerts, secure patient history, doctor and pharmacy integration, personalized health insights, and offline mobile support to make healthcare information accessible to everyone.
