Inspiration
We got inspired by the current COVID-19 situation to look in-depth into the medical field and what issues presented there. Our teammate Aayush's father works in the medical field so we were able to develop MedConnect with his background knowledge and our external research!
What it does
MedConnect connects local hospitals that have an excess amount of unused, unexpired medical supplies waste to small clinics that need medical supplies at a lower cost which we can divert through our marketplace. In addition, we are doing a ML algorithm for the hospital to optimize its supply ordering.
How we built it
We started with our issue being medical supplies waste and expanding to target the issue through our marketplace and also our supply chain algorithm that allows us to differentiate ourselves among our competitors.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we ran into include estimation of numbers because there is not enough data as the market is relatively untapped. We also struggled with condensing our ideas into a 4-minute presentation as there was so much we wanted to communicate and emphasize.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of our prototype website that can model inputs and represent our idea. As well, we were able to meet, get to know each other, and work together in 48 hours!
What we learned
We learned that we need to divide our parts equally to separate manpower and ensure we meet our deadlines. As well, we learned a lot from the workshops/sessions/chats and was able to integrate their insights into our presentation.
What's next for MedConnect
We would first start to expand locally in Atalanta, and then expand to Houston, Boston, and LA. We would also launch our supply chain algorithm in year 2 opening up a second revenue stream.
