Inspiration

Though traditional medicine has predominantly been used for both common and rare diseases over the past few decades, scientists are working their ways on finding new treatments that are apt to patients’ biological conditions. Patients have been reported facing a variety of symptoms upon contracting Covid-19– many of which were influenced by their medical history. Based on these factors, not all patients are suited for the “one-size-fits-all” method, resulting in difficulties in keeping track of each individual’s progress. Sequelae– either caused by viruses and or by surgeries– in conjunction with biological factors engender an alteration in future remedies so that the “customized medicine” yields higher efficiency.

Thus, precision medicine is deemed more effective than traditional systems during the current Covid-19 pandemic. Furthermore, as part of a digital age, the medical field has been incessantly finding ways to integrate technology into health practices. By taking both of these factors in mind, we have developed the free mobile health app, MedConnect, to aid in optimizing current health care systems.

What it does

MedConnect is a free mobile app that facilitates the access, collection, and organization of patients’ medical records. Its friendly UI interface makes MedConnect easily navigable by individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Combining the application of AI, our app is designed to collect up-to-date data from patients in order to cater to the specific needs of each individual and enhance the treatment effectiveness. Patients and medical professionals can easily access crucial medical information and documents through MedConnect. As patient data will be stored on the cloud, doctors from any medical institution – with the patient’s consent–are able to access it, which can shorten appointments, decrease hospital queues, and help doctors formulate optimized treatments. Patients’ involvement in their own health is also encouraged through the app’s routine health checks, as well numerous other trackers including ones for activities, diets, and symptoms. MedConnect also displays and reminds patients of health recommendations from their doctors. Users can also self-check their health through routine surveys integrated into the app itself. Upon completion of the tasks and the health checks, the data is logged in MedConnect’s database which can be checked by medical professionals without the need for an appointment. If concerning data appears, doctors will be notified and they can request a meeting with the patient. Additionally, the app will provide any information taken from prestigious websites on medical information which allows patients to understand more about the illness treatments they are taking. This feature affirms the patients and educates them on their health.

How we built it

We built the app using Thunkable, a mobile app drag and drop builder that is available online.

Challenges we ran into

There were many bugs in the code so we were unable to get all the functions we wanted to include in the app. Furthermore, due to the limited amount of time of this hackathon, we were unable to spend more time debugging our app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created a functional app that highlights the basic functions of MedConnect we would like to have if it were a real product.
