Medacognitive is an innovative medical reconciliation and patient engagement platform that allows patients to dynamically track their own medications and allows hospitals to manage medication use. It identifies conflicting medications with adverse effects if taken together and allows patients to be in charge of their health. Existing solutions are too costly, and focus solely on hospital-wide implementation rather than patient engagement. Our product is first and foremost for the patient and then for hospitals. Medical reconciliation accounts for 40% of medical errors 20% of which result in patient harm.
Our solution is elegant, technical, and not costly, which provides a solution to a complex market problem. We learned about entrepreneurial values, the importance of diversity and STEM, and the overwhelming fun and value in hacking together and collaboratively.
This product was inspired by one of the member’s father’s who has had experience taking medications which have led to adverse effects on his health. Ultimately, our goal was to prevent things like this from happening, and to save lives.
We all have a large amount of technical experience, coding projects utilized by the UN, publishing research papers, attending the International Olympiad Informatics, and NCWIT’s National Award for Computing. We didn’t, however, know how to solve this industry problem. Therefore, we contacted CEO’s and leading industry professionals, like Andrew Agwunobi (M.D. M.B.A CEO of UCONN Health) and biomedical entrepreneur and physician Elizabeth Nega. Our efforts were in attempt to use our existing technical knowledge to solve a problem affecting our friends, family, and millions around the world.
