Inspiration
Problem statementThe widespread circulation of counterfeit and unsafe medicines poses a serious threat to public health, as consumers and pharmacies cannot reliably identify whether a medicine is genuine, expired, or recalled. Existing safety alerts fail to reach users on time, resulting in continued usage of dangerous products. A simple, real-time verification system is urgently needed to ensure that only authentic and safe medicines reach patients.
What it does
Problem u want to solve The increasing circulation of counterfeit and unsafe medicines puts millions of people at risk, as neither consumers nor pharmacies can reliably verify the authenticity or safety of medications. Fake and recalled batches continue to enter the market due to the lack of a real-time verification and traceability system. This results in ineffective treatment, severe health complications, and preventable loss of life.
How we built it
Proposed solution: We are proposing MedCheck, a QR-based medicine authentication and recall tracking platform. Each medicine pack is assigned a unique secure QR code that consumers, pharmacies, and distributors can scan to instantly verify authenticity, batch details, expiry, and recall status. All scans are logged in a central system, enabling manufacturers and regulators to detect counterfeit hotspots, act on recalls faster, and ensure that only safe and genuine medicines reach patients.
Challenges we ran into
Target audience: The primary users of this solution are consumers, pharmacies, and pharmaceutical manufacturers, who rely on the platform to verify the authenticity and safety of medicines before use or sale. Regulatory bodies and healthcare authorities also benefit from real-time analytics to monitor counterfeit activity and support public health enforcement. Together, these users form an ecosystem focused on ensuring that only genuine and safe medicines reach the public.
