Inspiration
At this time, Air quality in my area is poor and some of my friends that have asthma/allergies are having to temporarily move to other locations. This was the inspiration for the idea. When you move to a city, many things are important for your quality of your life like: Air Quality, Safety, Traffic, Covid Risk, Cost of Milk and Eggs, Housing costs and more.. Wouldn't it be nice to know how the city measures on all the things that are important to you?
What it does
Quality of Life app uses many sources to gather data and calculate scores along the different areas like air quality, pollen, job climate so you can visualize all the data and make informed decisions.
How we built it
Used Python. Found APIs to get the relevant scores and built out the visual pieces using many of the tutorials
Challenges we ran into
Getting all the data shown visualization required learning. Debugging was a bit hard. Some libraries were not supported, so had to figure out alternatives
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I was able to quickly learn this platform and able to pull in data from a variety of sources, and learn visualization tools. The platform was very useful to build a usable app quickly.
What we learned
Its possible to build out a full app in 1 week with the right platform. Learned an interesting platform and tools, definitely learnt a new way to build webapps.
What's next for MecSimCalc Hackathon
Will look to expand this application and build more apps
