Inspiration
We looked at the mechanical arcade in Suffolk, enjoyed how the games looked, and decided to build one ourselves
What it does
The game is composed of cardboard, and the user pulls strings to move and angle the elevator to try to move luggage up the tower. If luggage drops through the board, then it's seen by a camera and recognised. The aim would be to log the score and send the final result to an AI system. The AI would then provide information about the destination based on the score. The aim was also to use an API to access the local business venues to generate an itinerary and provide facts about the location.
How we built it
With a dream. Image processing and cameras were implemented in Python, and the AI was implemented in Python. The aim was also to use an NLP for the ai too. The rest was made with cardboard, PVA, paper, newspaper, tape, cans, tools, blood, sweat and tears
Challenges we ran into
Every challenge imaginable. We had:
- Python issues with opencv
- AI issues with programming and accessing information
- Getting the systems communicating
- Manufacture of the game
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are alive Advanced my day 1 skills of Python - Albie Having a somewhat complete project Advancing knowledge with AI's
What we learned
Learnt more about Python and vision We learnt a lot
What's next for Mechanical Arcade for Gatwick
Hopefully finishing the game and trying to connect things Adding the ai and connectivity to the game
