Inspiration
Have you ever wanted to meet new people or go on a date but had no idea where to go or what to do together? Ever felt weird about suggesting your favorite hole-in-the-wall or that niche thing you like to do? Ever felt bad about seeing perfectly good food go to waste at restaurants? MeatUp was invented to solve these sticky social problems!
In the Covid crisis, it is hard for businesses especially, small businesses to run. The team comes up with the idea of creating an app that will help people socialize (staying apart at a safe social distance) and help the local business and restaurants.
What it does
Our "MeatUp" app will match people who are interested in meeting new people or dating based on the profile, interests, and location. The app will suggest restaurants and locations with coupon codes promoting the local businesses.
How we built it
We used Android Studio, IoT, and Arduino to build the app. The users can use the app to search for matches and locations. In order to make the app robust and community benefit in mind, we allow take-out or delivery orders and consider implementing the food security application aspect as well. For food security, IoT microprocessors and sensors would check the food temperature, humidity, and ethanol gas for food quality. In case, the user fails to pick it up and before the food goes bad, the application will alert the owners of the business and food shelters. The food resource won't go wasted and the less fortunate who can't afford food would be able to obtain the food.
Challenges we ran into
Coming up with ways to send messages between a physical sensor and an app database was a tough engineering problem, as well as incorporating database information such as geolocation data, data from other apps (like coupon codes), and creating the match-making app environment.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the hardware component that benefits the community not only socially but also for the good of food-insecure people.
What's next for MeatUp! The App
We hope to fully implement all our huge ideas, and hopefully get companies engaged with the concept of presenting their products and services to a wide range of people, as well as having MeatUp sensors implemented across many restaurants!
