🥩 About the Project: Meat Leaderboard
What inspired it
This project was born out of the Silly Sh!t Challenge prompt, which asked participants to build something delightfully weird. I asked myself:
“What if there were a global competition to see who eats the most meat?”
Thus, Meat Leaderboard was born; a weekly ranking of the world’s top carnivores, built entirely for fun (and maybe a little protein-fueled glory).
What it does
Users log how many pounds of meat they eat each day. The app automatically updates a public leaderboard showing who has consumed the most meat that week. It resets every Sunday at midnight, giving all carnivores a fresh start.
There are no rewards. Just bragging rights and beefy pride.
How I built it
- Bolt.new: Used for building the entire front-end and backend logic without writing code
- Supabase: Stores user profiles and daily meat logs
- Netlify: Used to deploy the full-stack app
- Bolt’s AI tooling: Helped generate the UI, schema, and handle weekly leaderboard logic
The app includes simple authentication, real-time leaderboard sorting, and a deadpan meat-themed UI.
What we learned
- Bolt.new can build legit full-stack apps ridiculously fast
- Supabase integrates cleanly for auth + data when structured correctly
- Sometimes, the best ideas are the dumbest ones as long as they’re well-executed
- Building playful, silly products is a great way to experiment with AI tools and ship fast
Challenges we faced
- Getting Supabase to connect correctly within Bolt took some troubleshooting
- Designing a leaderboard that updates weekly without manual resets required backend coordination
- Keeping the experience fun but still user-friendly was a balancing act — I wanted it to feel stupid, but not broken
Final Thoughts
Meat Leaderboard might be useless, but it’s a working app that showcases how quickly someone can take a joke idea and turn it into a live product with no traditional code. And that’s kind of the point of this hackathon. 🥩👑
