Welcome to Mean Girls meets Hackathon! Inspired by RoseHack 2024 with a creative twist, we have developed a game where you can choose your path as Cady whether you will be a Hackathon champ or chump!
The movie Mean Girls inspired us to create a game where the main character faces yet another challenge with the girls but we included a twist in honor of the RoseHack 2024 cyberpunk edition.
The game consists of a storyline consisting of the main character, Cady, who enters the Hackathon and needs to join a team. She decides to join Regina George's team of three since they looked "smart" but finds herself in quite a predicament. The game offers different choices and depending on those choices, the outcomes differ leading to two different endings depending on Cady's choices, a happy ending or an unhappy ending.
We used the app renpy to put together our storyline and option to pick choices and incorporated python into the story to include dialogue and the actual choices themselves. We got images off of google and put them together into slides to post onto renpy and align each section of code according to each scene in the story.
Some challenges we ran into were coming up with an idea that we could execute while incorporating some of the themes available such as women centric and social impact. However, we were able to take an iconic movie and turn it into a meaningful message in the end.
We were pretty proud of the fact that we were able to put everything together since the actual dragging code from python and corresponding it to the renpy was a tedious and somewhat difficult process.
We learned the importance of collaboration and teamwork as it is crucial for success and provides a positive and uplifting environment. The process was also very thrilling and the experience we gained from this Hackathon was unforgettable.
