Inspiration

There is not a food shortage in the U.S., rather food inequalities towards the access to good quality meals. We aim to create a platform that incentivizes individuals and businesess to close this gap.

What it does

This platform allows individuals to donate meals to those in need, while allowing others to accept the meals. Meal can be a blanket donation or donated specifically to someone a user has directly interacted with.

How we built it

We prototyped the platform with technology that simulated an app that will be developed in the future.

Challenges we ran into

We had difficulty finding paths to monetize, as well as customer acquisition.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

There are several ongoing problems in the world currently, and we are proud to have developed an idea that we are sure will help many individuals. We hope for individuals and family to find more comfort throughout their daily lives as one problem can be solved for them.

What we learned

We have all learned a variety of new technological and business-oriented skills through the development of MealSpots. Also, we have become more understanding on food insecurity and homelessness in the United States as a part of our research.

What's next for MealSpot

In the future, we will continue to expand our business to other cities. We will also begin to focus on sustainability efforst to incentivize restaurants to additonally donate extra food at the end of the day to reduce food waste - a large contributorto carbon and greenhouse gas emissions.
