We came up with this idea because we care about people with food insecurity at charities and want to solve the problem of excess food waste at restaurants or food selling places.
What it does
Meals Giving is a web application that connects restaurants to charities through volunteer drivers to solve this problem of hunger. Whenever a restaurant has excess food in good condition, they fill a form under the restaurant tab scheduling a pickup. Whenever a charity is food insecure, they fill a form under the charities tab requesting a delivery. The drivers' page is where the helping hands (volunteer drivers) go to find a list of donating restaurants and needful charities to know where to pick up food and delivery it to the charity in need.
How we built it
We created a prototype of the app's user interface on the front-end using React.
Challenges we ran into
Discussing and communicating the ideas and workload with each other, especially when we were not all in person.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the creative solution that we came up with to help solve the problem in our community. This is our first time participating in a Hackathon, and we are very happy to make it to the end of the competition and create a final product.
What we learned
Communication is so important when working with others. Being able to listen, evaluate, and respect others' ideas are so critical in working as a team.
What's next for Meals Giving
We're looking forward to improving the app with fuller features and having our idea put into action to address the problem locally and internationally and make the world a hunger-free place.
