[First Years] MealMate

Inspiration

We were inspired by the challenges facing university students where with the hectic timetables that they have, struggle to make cheap and nutritious meals. We set out to combat this challenge.

What it does

It creates a 7-day meal plan based on one's budget, dietary preferences, and desired cuisines.

How we built it

We used React, Vite and Tailwind to develop our interactive front end.

Challenges we ran into

Frontend and backend, mainly backend development with a MongoDB connection issue, but which we resolved by redesigning our back end with JSON files as our databases, the data in which we accessed directly with React.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Figuring out how to use user input and learning how to do everything ourselves from scratch!

What we learned

How to connect front end and back end together to build features on the fly, and resolve issues and learn new tools that we weren't familiar with.

What's next for MealMates

Adding extra functionality, expanding to cater to more specifics of meal preferences and preparation.
