Inspiration
Every day, students waste a big part of their break standing in long cafeteria lines. By the time they get their food, half of their break is already gone. We wanted to solve this simple but frustrating problem. The inspiration for MealFlow came from the idea that student time is valuable, and a smarter ordering system could make campus life smoother and stress-free.
What it does
MealFlow is a smart cafeteria ordering platform that allows students to: Browse the cafeteria menu online Place an order instantly Track order status in real time Get notifications when their food is ready It reduces long queues, speeds up food delivery, and helps students make the most of their short breaks.
How we built it
Challenges we ran into
Managing real-time order updates was tricky at first Integrating the backend with the frontend smoothly Designing a UI that was simple enough for all students to use Handling simultaneous orders during peak times Ensuring the application stayed fast and responsive.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a fully functioning prototype within the hackathon time Successfully implemented real-time order tracking Created a clean, user-friendly interface Reduced average cafeteria waiting time significantly in testing Worked as a team, solved problems quickly, and learned new tools along the way
What we learned
How to design an app centered around solving a real student problem Improved knowledge of frontend–backend integration Learned how to optimize real-time features Better teamwork, communication, and time management How to rapidly prototype and deliver under pressure
