MealBridge is a full-stack MERN application designed to address two major societal challenges: food waste and hunger. Every day, restaurants, hotels, caterers, and individuals have surplus food that often goes to waste, while many people struggle to access nutritious meals. MealBridge bridges this gap by creating a centralized platform that connects food donors, NGOs, and volunteers for efficient food redistribution.

The platform supports four user roles—Donor, NGO, Volunteer, and Admin—each with dedicated functionalities. Donors can list surplus food with details such as quantity, type, expiry time, and pickup location. NGOs can browse and claim available donations based on their requirements, while volunteers are assigned pickup and delivery tasks to ensure timely distribution. The Admin oversees users, donations, and overall platform operations.

To improve efficiency, MealBridge uses MongoDB geospatial queries to identify nearby NGOs and volunteers, reducing transportation time and ensuring food reaches beneficiaries before it expires. The application also features JWT-based role-based authentication and authorization, ensuring secure access and protecting sensitive user data.

One of the key highlights of MealBridge is its AI-powered chatbot, which assists users by answering FAQs, guiding donors through the donation process, helping NGOs claim food, and providing navigation and platform support. This makes the platform more accessible and user-friendly, especially for first-time users.
