Inspiration

Indecisiveness can be a serious battle for those with mental health conditions such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or depression. To aid fellow students in what psychologists call "choice overload," we created the best website for those that struggle with food-indecisiveness.

What it does

Search "pasta", "burger", "fries", etc. Whatever you want, and the site uses an open crowd-sourced database of recipes to quickly fetch the user the meal. Alongside the ingredients, a youtube link and written instruction is offered.

How we built it

We used Javascript, HTML, CSS and "TheMealDB": database/API that provides recipes from around the world.

Challenges we ran into

We had wanted to turn our Raspberry Pi 4 into a virtual AI assistant to add more accessibility features such as voice-recognition/control, however our bluetooth microphone was failing to connect. Despite hours of ample troubleshooting, there was no luck, we had to progress without it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Neither of us were familiar with Javascript nor web development, so we were very happy with the progress we made. Especially since oneof us was developing entirely from a raspberry pi 4 as well.

What we learned

How to fetch information from an API database, and becoming more familiar with javascript, css, and html.

What's next for meal-planner

Filter by specific ingredient to find recipes, voice-recognition and built in text-to-speed to make it more accessible. Since the goal is ease-of-use and simplicity: it'd also be much more convenient to turn the website into a chrome extension/widget/something more "mobile."
