Meal Easy

Inspiration

As university students, eating healthy and grocery shopping is a challenging task, that takes too much time from our busy schedules. We hope to inspire people to cook for themselves by making this process easier, as cooking is typically healthier and limits waste that takeout produces. Our project supports the UN SDG, good health and wellbeing.

What it does

Meal Easy is a mobile app that makes the process of cooking more simple by creating a grocery list of the recipe that you want to create. The grocery list, once approved by the user will be checked out and delivered to them so they don't have to waste time to go to the store. Our meal planning feature also allows the user to get an overview of their week to motivate and make eating healthy a habit.

How we built it

We used Figma to create a prototype of our app and made sure to keep the interface user friendly.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran into were differentiating our app to the other many food delivery apps, like Hello Fresh. While those companies send their food products from their food supplier, our app is connected to the user's closest grocery store, which makes food delivery faster and more fresh. Another challenge that we faced was navigating the website and our limits to programming. It took some time to understand the tools of Figma and to utilize it properly. Although, we have a page to select preferences of meals, there is no actual programmed database that we created to suggest meals similar to those that were chosen.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Some accomplishments we're proud of is how the website turned out in the end. At the beginning, we were not very familiar with Figma, so we were proud of the result and how it worked. We were also happy with the idea that we had since it covered many branches of topics like health, visual, sustainability. We believe with more time and programming skill, this could be a great mobile app and business idea.

What we learned

We learned how to use the Figma platform and its tools, and we also learned how to take an idea and execute it through computing. It gave us more appreciation towards food apps already made today and how challenging setting it up and getting people to use it must have been.

What's next for Meal Easy

Ideas for the future of Meal Easy include adding video tutorials and a community page to share photos, reviews of your meals with friends and family. We would also create a more diverse recipe hub and an algorithm to make recipe suggestion better tailored to the individual and their nutrition goals.
