Every day, restaurants throw away perfectly edible food while countless people sleep hungry. The problem was never the lack of food — it was the lack of connection between excess and need. That idea became the foundation of MealConnect. We wanted to build something that felt meaningful, practical, and scalable. Instead of creating another generic AI tool, we focused on a real-world issue that affects millions daily.
What it does
MealConnect is an AI-powered food redistribution platform that connects restaurants, NGOs, and volunteers in real time. Restaurants can upload surplus food details, NGOs receive intelligent matching suggestions, and volunteers help coordinate pickup and delivery. The goal is simple: reduce food waste and make food reach people before it becomes waste.
How we built it
We used MeDo to rapidly structure the application workflow, user interactions, and intelligent conversation flows. The platform was designed around three core users: Restaurants NGOs Volunteers Using MeDo’s conversational generation capabilities, we created: Food upload workflows AI-based NGO matching Smart notification flows Volunteer coordination interfaces We focused heavily on making the user journey simple and intuitive instead of overly complex. MeDo became more than just a builder — it became a collaborative system for shaping the logic of the app. Instead of manually creating every workflow from scratch, we structured conversations with MeDo around: User roles Real-time food urgency Pickup coordination Smart matching logic One of the most impressive things MeDo helped generate was the AI-driven coordination flow between restaurants, NGOs, and volunteers. Watching conversational prompts evolve into working interfaces and workflows felt incredibly powerful.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was balancing simplicity with functionality. We did not want MealConnect to feel like just another food donation form. We wanted it to feel alive, responsive, and intelligent. Another challenge was designing workflows that made sense for multiple users simultaneously while keeping the interface clean and easy to use.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of transforming a real-world social problem into an AI-powered solution that feels practical, scalable, and impactful. One of our biggest accomplishments was creating a smooth coordination flow between restaurants, NGOs, and volunteers using MeDo’s conversational workflows. We’re also proud that MealConnect is not just an idea — it demonstrates how AI can create meaningful human impact by reducing food waste and helping communities in real time.
What we learned
This project taught us that meaningful technology does not always require massive infrastructure or complexity. Sometimes the most impactful ideas come from solving human problems with clarity and empathy. We also learned how powerful AI-assisted development can be when combined with real-world problem solving and thoughtful user experience design.
What's next for Meal connect - where surplus meals find a purpose.
Our next goal is to expand MealConnect into a larger AI-powered food rescue network with real-time tracking, smarter NGO matching, volunteer routing, and predictive food demand analysis. We envision a future where surplus food never becomes waste — it simply finds a purpose.
