Inspiration

Our main inspiration for the game was our desire to explore new technologies and software/engines we hadn't used before, but had a lot of interest in. We wanted to challenge ourselves and improve our coding skills by working on a creative project.

What it does

Our game is a unique flying adventure that takes you through changing seasons. Currently, we have an impressive proof of concept with all the features we wish to implement fully incorporated into the menus. The plot revolves around a pilot who has to parachute through the clouds and navigate the skies to reach the ground safely. With exciting music, you'll transition through spring, summer, and fall, each with its unique challenges and obstacles. After a thrilling journey, you'll arrive home and land safely.

How we built it

We built our game from scratch using the Godot game engine, and designed the assets using graphic design tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Procreate, and Canva. We referenced the official Godot document when needed, and tried out different things until we found what fit our vision. As a team, we had a clear division of labor, and we frequently swapped roles to keep our brains engaged.

Challenges we ran into

As our first hackathon and game development attempt, it was challenging to establish a clear timeline and idea of the game. Our inexperience in managing a complex project with the Godot Engine, along with its many moving parts made it difficult to make improvements without spending too much time on cleaning and polishing.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of finishing our first game using a software we hadn't used before. We stuck with it until the end and delivered a finished product ready for deployment.

What we learned

We learned about game design, sound design, and asset management. Collaboration was frequent in our agile environment, and our teamwork kept us motivated and engaged throughout the event.

What's next for Meadowbrook

We plan to publish a more fine-tuned version with four seasons and accessible features. We'll keep planning and polishing our game until it becomes a product expected of a game company, rather than just three friends on a development journey! Meadowbrook will continue to exist, and we're excited about what the future holds for our game.
