Me 2 You

Inspiration

As college students, we understand how expensive college life can be. Between tuition, textbooks, school supplies, and everyday essentials, costs can add up quickly. Sometimes, students need certain items for only a short period but end up spending money buying them brand-new.

Our team of four wanted to create something that could solve this problem while bringing college students together.

For example, imagine having an important math exam tomorrow but not owning the calculator you need. Instead of purchasing a brand-new calculator for over $100, what if you could rent or buy one from another student who no longer needs theirs?

That simple idea inspired us to create Me 2 You, a platform built around students helping students.

What it does

Me 2 You is a peer-to-peer marketplace designed specifically for college students. Our platform connects students who need certain items with other students willing to sell or rent them.

Whether someone needs a calculator for an upcoming exam, textbooks for a semester, or dorm essentials, Me 2 You makes it easier to find affordable options within their college community.

At the same time, students who have items they no longer use can earn extra money by selling or renting them to others.

Our goal is to create a community where students can save money, share resources, and help one another succeed.

How we built it

Our team of three developed Me 2 You during HackAtlanta 2026 using OpenAI Codex as an AI-assisted development tool.

We started by brainstorming real-world problems college students face and decided to focus on making essential items more affordable and accessible.

After developing our idea, we used Codex to help turn our vision into a website. We worked together to plan the platform, guide the development process, and design a user-friendly experience.

We focused on making the website simple and accessible so students could easily explore items available for purchase or rent.

Throughout the process, we combined teamwork, creativity, and AI-assisted development to bring our idea to life.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was figuring out how to turn our idea into something practical that college students would actually want to use.

We had to think about how students would interact with the platform, how buying and renting items could work, and how to make the website easy to navigate.

Another challenge was working within the limited time of a hackathon. We had to manage our time, communicate effectively, and decide which features were most important.

Despite these challenges, we worked together to develop our project and improve our understanding of the development process.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our biggest accomplishment was turning an idea that started as a conversation into a website.

We’re especially proud that our project focuses on a real problem college students experience.

Instead of building something just for the sake of technology, we wanted to create something that could genuinely benefit students.

Me 2 You also promotes sustainability by encouraging students to reuse items instead of throwing them away.

What we learned

Throughout this hackathon, we learned the importance of teamwork, communication, creativity, and problem-solving.

We also gained experience using AI-assisted development tools like Codex to help build a website.

Most importantly, we learned that creating technology isn’t just about writing code. It’s about identifying real problems and developing solutions that can make people’s lives easier.

What's next for Me 2 You

Although Me 2 You started as a hackathon project, we believe it has the potential to grow into something much bigger.

In the future, we hope to introduce features such as:

University Email Verification: Ensuring students are connected with others from their college.
Ratings and Reviews: Building trust between buyers, sellers, and renters.
Secure Payments: Making transactions safer and more convenient.
Direct Messaging: Allowing students to communicate about items.
Rental Scheduling: Helping students coordinate rental periods and returns.
Campus Expansion: Bringing Me 2 You to colleges and universities across the country.

Our long-term vision is to make Me 2 You a trusted marketplace that college students can rely on throughout their academic journey.
