Inspiration Students often spend hours turning their notes into study questions. We wanted to make this process instant, so they can focus on learning instead of formatting. MCQ.AI was born from the idea that anyone should be able to paste their notes and instantly get engaging multiple-choice questions to test themselves.
What it does MCQ.AI takes any text — class notes, articles, or study material — and converts it into clear, well-formatted multiple-choice questions with four options and correct answers marked. It helps learners revise faster, self-test effectively, and retain information longer.
How we built it We built MCQ.AI using HTML, Tailwind CSS, and JavaScript for a clean, responsive front-end. The OpenAI API powers the MCQ generation, turning raw text into quiz-ready content. A lightweight backend built with Node.js and Express securely handles API requests.
Challenges we ran into Ensuring that the AI-generated questions were accurate and not repetitive. Keeping the UI fast and responsive without complex frameworks. Handling long text inputs without hitting API limits.
Accomplishments that we're proud of Built a working MVP in a short time with a simple, user-friendly interface. Achieved high accuracy in AI-generated questions for diverse subjects. Created a tool that works instantly without any sign-up or setup.
What we learned Prompt design plays a huge role in the quality of AI-generated educational content. Keeping things simple often delivers a better user experience. Even a small tool can have big impact if it solves a real pain point.
What's next for MCQ.AI Add support for exporting quizzes to Google Forms and PDF. Introduce gamified quiz modes with timers and leaderboards. Enable collaborative study rooms where friends can share MCQs in real-timee.
