Inspiration

As a team of students, we wanted to work on a relatable and useful project. We used the McGill night route map as inspiration. This is a document provided by the university which shows safe ways to get around campus.

What it does

The application marks libraries, student residences and important students services on a 3D interactive map. Our original goal was to make safe routes between these locations, however, due to challenges such as time constraints, we were unable to implement this feature.

How we built it

We created a Next.js project structure with React and Tailwind CSS for our front-end design. We also deployed our web application through Vercel.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge we ran into is implementing the dynamic routes in the map, unfortunately we ran out of time and were unable to implement this feature.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a team, we are happy with our deployment and UI design.

What we learned

We learned important skills in time management and team coordination. In terms of technical skills, we improved skills in full stack development. Namely, the team got to practice using javascript and frameworks such as React.

What's next for McGuardian

Implementing unfinished features such as the interactive route display, live location handling and emergency mode.
