Inspiration
I’ve always believed that understanding someone’s personality is more important than just speaking their language. If Google Translate helps people understand each other across languages, why not build a tool that helps people communicate across personalities?
I’ve been obsessed with MBTI and Enneagram for years — in friendships, relationships, even cofounders. And when I saw Bolt.new’s one-shot prompt challenge, I figured… why not turn that obsession into something useful?
What it does
MBTI Translator rewrites any message to match the communication style of the recipient’s MBTI type (and optionally their Enneagram too). Whether your message needs to be softened, clarified, or reframed logically, the tool adapts tone, structure, and emotional delivery so your words actually land.
How we built it
The frontend was built on Bolt.new using a one-shot LLM prompt that handles the translation logic. I iterated through about 10 versions of the prompt to find the right balance between tone accuracy and emotional nuance — with personality trait overlays for each MBTI type and conditional Enneagram adjustments baked in.
Challenges we ran into
At first, I tried hardcoded templates — which felt super generic and, frankly, cringe. ("From a strategic perspective, why don't you validate my feelings" — yikes.) The challenge was getting the LLM to reframe, not just rephrase — and to do it in a way that felt natural to the recipient's personality. Finding the right system prompt and structuring the inputs cleanly took some iteration.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Got it to actually feel like a real personality-aware translator
Reframed emotionally sensitive messages for different MBTI types with nuance
Built a functional prototype using Bolt.new quickly
What we learned
Prompt engineering is both art and science — tiny changes in wording = massive impact You can’t cheat real personality nuance with templates; you need deep LLM reasoning Tools like this could have real value in therapy, conflict resolution, and team dynamics
What's next for MBTI Translator
Add support for two-way translation (e.g., see both how you meant it and how they received it), Ability to upload conversations Launch a web version with LLM API integration and personality profiles Explore partnership/collab ideas with apps in mental health, dating, or team comms Potentially ship a Chrome plugin or Slack bot version!
