Inspiration

During my years in consulting and strategy roles, I spent hundreds of hours creating executive presentations. One of the most repetitive tasks was turning raw data into clear business charts — deciding the right visualization, formatting slides, and manually adjusting details before every important meeting.

I realized that many professionals have valuable data and insights, but spend too much time on manual chart creation instead of focusing on the story behind the numbers.

MBB Chart Studio was inspired by a simple idea: what if AI could help people skip "manual PowerPoint chart crafting" and spend more time on decision-making?

What it does

MBB Chart Studio is a chart assistant that transforms raw data into executive-ready business visuals.

Users can upload or paste data, get intelligent chart recommendations, and generate professional business charts in seconds.

The tool supports common business visualization needs, including Bar, Clustered Bar, 100% Bar, Line, Waterfall, Bubble, and Mekko charts.

It is designed for consultants, strategy teams, finance professionals, marketers, and anyone who needs to communicate data clearly.

How I built it

I built MBB Chart Studio with Codex using GPT-5.6.

As a strategy professional without a traditional engineering background, I used AI as a development partner throughout the entire process — from defining the product concept and user experience, to writing code, debugging issues, and continuously improving the product.

The key was not simply asking AI to generate an application, but combining my domain expertise with AI capabilities: understanding the workflow, defining user needs, and iterating toward a useful product.

Challenges I ran into

One of the biggest challenges I ran into was translating my professional experience into clear product requirements.

As someone familiar with business presentations, I had many implicit expectations about what makes a chart "executive-ready". Turning these tacit consulting standards into clear product logic required continuous testing and refinement.

Another challenge was balancing automation and user control — AI should provide helpful recommendations, while users should still be able to customize and make final decisions.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am proud that MBB Chart Studio evolved from a simple idea into a working product that solves a real workflow problem.

The tool can now generate multiple types of business charts through an intuitive interface, helping users move from raw data to presentation-ready visuals much faster.

More importantly, this project demonstrates how AI can help non-engineers transform their professional knowledge into reusable tools.

What I learned

This project changed my understanding of AI.

AI is not only a productivity assistant that helps people complete existing tasks faster. It can also become a creation partner that enables domain experts to build products they previously could not.

The most valuable skill is not knowing every technical detail, but knowing how to identify problems, define workflows, and collaborate effectively with AI.

What's next for MBB Chart Studio

I plan to continue improving the product by making chart recommendations smarter, expanding visualization capabilities, and better supporting different business storytelling scenarios.

The long-term vision is to build an AI copilot for business communication — helping professionals turn data into clear, compelling stories with less manual effort.
