Inspiration
Some components from Soul Knight & Minecraft were inspiration for few features in the game
What it does
A game where the player explores a maze labyrinth, collecting items and upgrading weapons, alongside a boss fight at the end of each level
How we built it
We used HTML, javascript, and p5.js to create most of the game. HTML for formatting, CSS for styling, and JS for functionality, as well as the core system of the game.
Challenges we ran into
As the project got larger, it became much harder to expand on it without having other parts of the program breaking. We overcame this by efficient commenting to understand better what each part actually does in relation to others lol
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the graphics and the animations that we were able to achieve. We're also proud of the shader technology that we were able to use. Overall the game functions pretty well and we overcame obstacles we faced, collectively as a team. Project aside, we are happy to have been able to work in a team and coordinate with each other :D
What we learned
We learned the importance of commenting lol, as well as the importance of simplicity in a week-long game jam. Detailed planning is very beneficial and thankfully our planning helped out. The coding concepts we utilized were also a learning experience for some of us, so overall this game jam was also very helpful in making us better programmers.
What's next for Maze Marauder
More weapon types, more bosses, improved graphics in menus, perhaps some NPCs
