Inspiration
Inspired by the Japanese game show - Takeshi's Castle. On a random day, it suddenly came to my mind while I was thinking about what to build for the hackathon!
What it does
A 2D maze-based game where players navigate through a honeycomb maze to find the hidden exit while avoiding toxic gas and patrolling guards. The trick is to be fast and be careful!
How we built it
- Pixi.js
- Devvit
- TypeScript
Challenges we ran into
I started quite late, so time itself was a major challenge! A major challenge was when the (webview) app wasn't running at all and it took a lot of time to get around that. Images weren't showing up either but thanks to the folks on devvit reddit, I got it working ^^
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I pretty much completed the game, I thought I wouldn't be able to make it. I guess that's something I'm proud of!
What we learned
Pixi.js , devvit all that good stuff. It was a fun experience.
What's next for Maze Escape
- Add some sort of leaderboard for fastest escape
- Add sound, improve the already added assets too
- schedule maze posts weekly/daily
- support for mobile
- Try to make it multiplayer
(and a lot of other things...)
Built With
- blocks
- devvitapp
- pixi.js
- typescript
