Inspiration
Mayday : An internationally recognized radio word to signal distress
Many amongst us, especially women and children, don't feel safe in public. This app targets those people to help them feel safe and inform their neighbors when they feel uncomfortable and need help.
What it does
An app that plays a siren sound when the user says a code word, so as to alert the nearby people of something suspicious happening. A keyword can be set by the user and on pressing start button, the app tries to listen to the speech and converts to text format. The app tries to listen for the keyword until stop is pressed .
How we built it
We used :
- Flutter, and by extension dart to program the app.
- Android studio as development environment.
- Flutter package for speech to text conversion.
Challenges we ran into
We had some trouble finding how to incorporate the speech to text API ,and are proud to have tackled it after some effort within the given time constraint.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of having been successful in building a fully-fledged app like we imagined it to be, that too in a limited time. Yay!
What we learned
We learned how to integrate the speech to text into our app. We also learned new concepts throughout the timeline besides working together as a team
