Modern workplaces connect us through technology but often disconnect us from ourselves. MAYA was inspired by the need to bring empathy back into work life. Rooted in the Sanskrit word for “creation,” MAYA reimagines the workplace as a mindful, intelligent ecosystem that understands emotions, prevents burnout, and strengthens human connection in hybrid environments. It’s where technology learns to care — helping people work better by feeling better.

What it does

MAYA is an AI-powered wellbeing and connection platform that transforms the workplace into an adaptive, human-centered experience. It listens, learns, and responds to employees’ emotional and mental states to prevent burnout and disengagement. Through mood check-ins, smart scheduling, and personalized wellness insights, MAYA helps employees balance focus, rest, and collaboration. It also fosters connection in hybrid teams through shared reflections, recognition moments, and supportive community features — creating a workplace that feels empathetic, connected, and alive.

How we built it

We designed MAYA using Figma, starting with user research and empathy mapping to understand key workplace challenges such as burnout, disconnection, and lack of balance. From there, we created low-fidelity wireframes to structure the app’s core features — including emotional check-ins, smart scheduling, and community spaces. Through iterative prototyping in Figma, we refined interactions, accessibility, and visual flow to ensure a calming, intuitive experience. Our final high-fidelity prototype demonstrates how MAYA integrates empathy, AI, and thoughtful design to reimagine the modern workplace.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was finding the right balance between technology and emotion — ensuring that MAYA felt empathetic and supportive without being intrusive or overly automated. We also struggled to simplify complex ideas like AI-driven wellbeing into a clean, user-friendly interface. During the design process, aligning color palettes, tone, and interaction flow to maintain a sense of calm yet futuristic energy required multiple iterations. Finally, designing for both hybrid and in-office experiences challenged us to think inclusively about accessibility, context, and diverse user needs.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of creating MAYA as more than just an app — it’s a vision of a more human, emotionally aware workplace. Our biggest accomplishment was transforming a complex idea about empathy and technology into a functional, high-fidelity prototype that feels natural and calming. We successfully designed seamless user flows in Figma, blending AI, wellness, and collaboration into one cohesive experience. Most importantly, we’re proud that MAYA reflects our shared belief that the future of work should prioritize people — their wellbeing, their balance, and their connection.

What we learned

Throughout building MAYA, we learned how powerful human-centered design can be when technology is guided by empathy. We deepened our understanding of how UX decisions affect emotion and wellbeing, from color choices to interaction timing. Using Figma, we gained hands-on experience in wireframing, prototyping, and translating abstract ideas like “emotional intelligence” into tangible user flows. We also learned the importance of collaboration — combining creativity, research, and iteration to design an experience that not only works but feels right. Most of all, we discovered that designing for the future of work means designing for the human behind the screen.

What's next for MāyaÙX

Our next step is to evolve MāyaUX from a prototype into an interactive platform that can adapt to real workplace environments. We plan to integrate AI-driven sentiment analysis and wellbeing analytics to make the experience more personalized and responsive. Future iterations will focus on expanding community features, enabling seamless integration with tools like Slack or Microsoft Teams, and testing with real users to refine emotional feedback loops. We also aim to explore voice and ambient interface design, allowing MāyaUX to gently respond through tone, light, or sound. Ultimately, our goal is to make MāyaUX a trusted digital companion that transforms how people experience work — with empathy at its core.
