Inspiration
“අනන්ත සසරේ... නිවන් සොයන සිතක රැඳී…”
The inspiration for Māyā Sihine came from the timeless Buddhist idea of Māyā — the illusion of the sensory world. In a society obsessed with images and appearances, I wanted to explore how human perception becomes both our prison and path to awakening.
Every sight, sound, fragrance, taste, and touch that captivates us is momentary — a dream made of light. This project became a meditation on that truth — a cinematic reflection of impermanence, expressed through modern AI creativity and ancient spiritual insight.
What it does
Māyā Sihine is a 4:48-minute AI-driven music video that merges poetry, music, and visual storytelling into a single emotional experience.
It invites viewers to journey inward — from illusion to awareness — through sound, imagery, and rhythm. Each frame dissolves like a dream, mirroring the way emotions rise and vanish within consciousness.
The video visually explores the six sense doors (sight, sound, smell, taste, touch, and thought) as portals through which illusion binds the soul to endless desire (Anantha Sansāra).
How I built it
The project was created as a collaboration between human direction and AI imagination.
Creative Flow:
Concept & Lyrics: Co-written with ChatGPT and Gemini AI, blending human emotion with machine creativity.
Music Composition: Composed and produced using Suno AI, combining ambient electronic tones with cinematic percussion and melodic vocals.
Visual Generation: Imagery and cinematic motion built with Google Flow, Whisk, and Veo, generating evolving dream-like visuals.
Storyboarding: Directed through a 36-shot storyboard, designed around emotional transitions rather than linear narrative.
Video Editing & Post: Assembled and color-graded in CapCut, ensuring rhythmic harmony between sound and image.
Challenges we ran into
- Maintaining visual and emotional continuity between different AI image and video tools.
- Synchronizing AI-generated motion to match the music’s dynamic tempo.
- Preserving the philosophical tone of the Sinhala lyrics while translating it into a global visual language.
- Balancing Sri Lankan cultural identity with futuristic AI aesthetics.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Created a spiritually themed AI music video that merges Sri Lankan poetic depth with cutting-edge AI tools.
- Successfully integrated multiple AI platforms into a unified cinematic flow.
- Crafted a narrative that resonates emotionally — not through dialogue, but through color, rhythm, and silence.
- Represented Sri Lanka’s ancient wisdom and artistry in an international AI film context.
What we learned
AI tools are not replacements for creativity — they are mirrors of the human mind. Through this project, I learned that emotion, awareness, and intention are what give AI its artistic truth.
Each tool represented a different faculty of consciousness:

I also discovered that imperfection is beauty — the moments where AI “fails” often reveal new artistic meaning.
What's next for මායා සිහිනේ – Māyā Sihine” (The Dream of Illusion)
- Create a series of AI-driven music and visual projects inspired by Buddhist philosophy, exploring themes like impermanence (Anicca), consciousness (Vinnāna), and liberation (Nibbāna).
- Collaborate with other AI musicians and filmmakers to build a cross-cultural fusion of Eastern spirituality and modern digital art.
- Present Māyā Sihine in international AI film festivals and use it as a platform to promote Sri Lankan creative technology and philosophy.
Ultimately, the vision is to continue using AI as a medium for awakening — transforming algorithms into art that reminds humanity of its own inner stillness.
