Why we built MAYA

A CI failure rarely lives in one place. The failing job is in one tool, the relevant code is in a repository, and the reason a similar failure was fixed last month may exist only in someone’s memory. We wanted a company’s next incident to start with its own evidence and history.

MAYA lets a company connect an existing repository and choose pipelines to watch. Its Observer records every build. For a failure, MAYA can send the exact job evidence to an Orchestrator, which selects a specialist. GitLab Duo runs the investigation and repair workflows; MAYA supplies relevant past cases, company guidance, and limits on what the agents may do.

A separate learning workforce categorizes failures, updates reviewed guidance, creates specialists when patterns justify them, and retires outdated ones. Agent Logs links each decision to the real build, GitLab session, database record, or PR.

A real repair from our demo

We merged a one-line rounding regression into Orbit Desk. GitHub Actions failed because a discounted price became $53.98 instead of $53.97; the separate homepage build stayed green. MAYA investigated through GitLab Duo and proposed a one-line correction in repair PR #41. Its PR checks passed. After the repair was merged, the checks on the new main commit passed.

Orbit Desk has CI across GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, and CircleCI. MAYA has also completed GitLab CI-to-GitLab Pages repair journeys for a separate storefront.

How we built it

MAYA’s source, CI, and agent flow definitions live on GitLab. GitLab Duo runs the reasoning workflows. A TypeScript controller handles observation, company-scoped memory, permissions, source validation, and tracking checks on the exact repair commit. Google Cloud Run hosts the application; Supabase PostgreSQL stores builds, cases, agent activity, and reviewed lessons.

The hardest part was making “fixed” mean something precise. An agent’s proposal, a passing PR check, a merge, and a verified deployment are different events. MAYA records them separately and keeps the evidence available to inspect.
