About the Project
Starting a career in tech can feel overwhelming. Students often know the role they want, but not which skills to build, what projects to complete, or how to show their progress to employers. Maven was created to turn that uncertainty into a clear and practical next step.
Maven gives students a personalized roadmap toward a tech role, tracks their progress with a readiness score based on completed tasks, and helps turn real experience into strong CV bullet points.
Students can also upload an existing CV to quickly prefill their experience. Maven extracts relevant information, presents it back to the student for review, and lets them edit or confirm everything before it is used to personalize their roadmap.
What We Learned
Building Maven taught us that career guidance needs to be both personal and trustworthy.
AI is useful for tailoring roadmaps, understanding a student's background, and helping shape CV bullet points. However, we felt that progress scoring should remain transparent and that students should stay in control of every claim made about their experience.
One of our main challenges was balancing useful AI features with privacy and clear user control.
We designed CV intake as an optional shortcut. The uploaded file is used to extract an experience summary, which the student reviews and confirms. The rest of Maven's roadmap generation then works from that confirmed information.
We also kept the readiness score arithmetic-based rather than AI-generated. This means students can understand exactly how their score changes and which completed tasks contributed to it.
Why Maven
Maven helps students move from:
"I want to work in tech, but I don't know what to do next."
to:
"I know what skills I need, what I should build next, and what I can already show employers."
Instead of simply suggesting a career, Maven gives students a structured path toward it and helps them build evidence of what they have achieved along the way.
