Inspiration
The game draws inspiration from the Mau Mau uprising, a significant movement in Kenya's history where freedom fighters sought independence from British colonial rule.
What it does
Players assume the role of an African pilot returning to Kenya after World War II. Utilizing advanced technology acquired from the West, the protagonist joins the Mau Mau rebellion, contributing to the struggle for independence.
How we built it
The game is developed by Raytechgames, incorporating action, adventure, survival, sci-fi, strategy, and shooter elements to create an engaging experience. The tools used are Unity Engine. For the front end, we used C # and C ++ to do the back end of the game.
Challenges we ran into
Developing a game that accurately represents historical events while providing engaging gameplay can be challenging, especially when balancing educational content with entertainment. Also connecting the games database to Amazon Dynamo DB was a bit challenging since we ran into some errors but we sorted them out towards the end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a multiplayer game that has both educational and entertainment value. This game can be really beneficial even in schools since it will help children grasp the history of Maumau better.
What we learned
Using Dynamo BD was not a walk in the park but the AWS documentation really helped us in our integration process. The Amazon Q developer also really helped us debug and generate new code. It integrated so efficiently with the Visual Studio code IDE.
What's next for Maumau Uprising Game
Future plans may include further development to enhance gameplay, introduce additional features, and expand the narrative to provide a more comprehensive depiction of the Mau Mau rebellion.
