Inspiration
Sustainability is something that we as individuals are all aware of, but how many of us are truly cognizant of the impact that we have on a day to day basis. That's why we created Matrona, to give our end users a way to approximate how many resources they use in a day and how much their consumption contributes to the state of the environment.
What it does
Matrona takes parameters from users based on behaviors in their daily lives such as how much they drove, if they recycle of not, their diet, their electricity usage etc. We used a combination of AI and our own mathematical know how to create an equation that will take these parameters and calculate the user's impact in comparison to other Americans using a bell curve.
How we built it
We built this application using Streamlit as our front and back end, hosted on a GoDadddy domain and using Gemini as our AI model.
Challenges we ran into
It was definitely challenging getting our domain to host along with trying to understand how to integrate our equations and data visualizations to integrate with our website.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're definitely proud of learning Streamlit and using it for the first time while being able to successfully integrate a project with it.
What we learned
We learned how to perform calculations related to carbon footprints, and we also gained more insight to the global issue of climate change. None of us had used Streamlit before and we learned how to use it.
What's next for Matrona
In the future, we plan to build a custom trained model to generate AI recommendations as opposed to publicly available generative AI's. We also want to implement incentives for people who utilize our app, such as sending thank you letters or providing gifts to them to encourage their continued carbon footprint reduction.
