Inspiration
My own journey as a first-generation low-income student has been the primary source of inspiration for this project. I have experienced firsthand the challenges and barriers that individuals like me face when pursuing higher education. This personal experience has ignited a passion for creating a solution that can make a tangible difference in the lives of first-generation low-income students. My goal is to empower these students with the tools and support they need to overcome obstacles, access educational opportunities, and achieve their academic and career aspirations.
What it does
The "Matrix Device for Savings and Assistance (MDSA)" is a comprehensive software solution designed to address the unique challenges faced by first-generation low-income students. It combines financial planning, career guidance, mental health support, community building, and more to provide a holistic approach to student success. MDSA enables students to create budgets, find scholarships, access tutoring resources, connect with mentors, and engage with a supportive community, all within a single platform. It aims to bridge the gap in resources and information, helping students thrive academically and personally.
How we built it
MDSA was built through a collaborative effort involving a team of dedicated individuals who share a commitment to improving the educational experiences of first-generation low-income students. We leveraged our software through the use of python in order to create a code which helps student's keep track of their monthly budgets, as in today's world it is very easy to forget to keep track of your money.
Challenges we ran into
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The accomplishments we were proud of were that even while constrained under hours of work load from school and standardized testing exams coming up in a week, we were able to finish this project in time.
What we learned
What I learned from this project is that I gained a expanded knowledge on what other challenges first-generation low income students face in this world. Additionally, I learned how to apply my python skills to real life problems to solve them.
What's next for Matrix device for savings and assistance (MDSA)
The next step for MDSA is to start a computer science club in my school and put this forward to depict my software to students and teach them about coding as well as how it can be used to deal with real life problems.
