Inspiration

My sister is a 5th grade teacher. Because Davis School District has strict requirements for the websites students can use, they are limited with what they can use as learning tools. My sister expressed how helpful it would be to have a website that gives her more insight to how her class is doing and what she could do to improve her teaching. She also wanted a website that would keep her students engaged in learning.

About Math Galaxy

Math Galaxy is a learning platform that allows 5th grade students to practice math problems through games. For example, a pizza game helps students visualize fractions. A battleship game helps them practice graphing coordinates. There are 20 games in total, each focusing on a different topic with a unique theme. On the teacher's side, they can assign student's games with custom difficulty settings to their liking. Teachers can generate an AI analysis that tells them what their students are doing well on and what they are struggling with. It gives helpful suggestions on what topics the teacher could focus on to help students.

How We Built It

We used Base44 to assist us in the development of our app. We had to learn how to write very detailed prompts to control the architecture, behavior, and design of our website. We struggled with bugs and design flaws and had to take lots of time to test, find the issues, and figure out how to fix them. After testing and refining, seeing our website come together was very rewarding. We hope to continue development of Math Galaxy so that teachers can use it as a tool to help them and their students.
