Kids learn math best by touching, drawing, sorting, and sharing real objects around them.

What it does

Math-Buddy turns everyday stationery into guided math missions. Kids use drawings, paper clips, erasers, paper, or a ruler, upload setup and result photos, and receive friendly AI feedback.

How we built it

Built with Next.js 15, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Framer Motion, and Gemini for photo verification. Progress and learner names stay in the browser with no database required.

Challenges we ran into

Helping AI distinguish intentional objects from backgrounds, hands, shadows, and notebook lines was challenging. We improved prompts and added mission-specific visual guidance and two-photo checkpoints.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created a kid-friendly comic onboarding flow, animated mission dashboard, real-world stationery activities, and feedback that can identify where a child’s work went wrong.

What we learned

AI feedback is much more useful when it checks a child’s process, not only the final answer. Clear activity instructions and structured evidence make photo verification more reliable.

What's next for Math-Buddy

Add parent progress reports, adaptive mission difficulty, accessibility options, printable activity packs, and richer feedback for each math skill.
