Inspiration
The inspiration for Maternity & Baby Hub comes from the alarming rise in mental health issues faced by pregnant women and new mothers, such as anxiety, depression, and stress. These conditions often go unnoticed, leading to severe consequences like maternal mortality, postpartum depression, and even cases where mothers take extreme measures, such as harming themselves or their babies.
The goal of this app is to provide emotional and mental support to women during their pregnancy and the postpartum period by offering accessible resources, including mental health support, maternity insurance information, and virtual consultations with healthcare providers. We aim to create an environment where women feel heard, supported, and empowered during this critical period of their lives.
What it does
Maternity & Baby Hub is a comprehensive web platform designed to support the mental, emotional, and physical health of pregnant women and new mothers.

- Community Features: Adding a community forum or social feature where mothers can share experiences, offer support, and find solidarity with others going through similar challenges.
How we built it
We developed Maternity & Baby Hub using the following technologies:
- Frontend: Built with React.js to create a responsive and interactive user interface. The app uses React Router for seamless navigation and Context API for managing state across the app.
- Backend: The server is built using Node.js and Express.js, providing RESTful APIs for handling virtual consultations, insurance queries, and health data.
- Database: MongoDB is used to store user profiles and health data.
- Authentication: JWT (JSON Web Tokens) is implemented for secure user authentication and session management.
Challenges we ran into
- User Privacy and Data Security: Protecting sensitive health data while maintaining a seamless user experience was a challenge. We implemented encryption and secure authentication to mitigate risks.
- Personalization: Tailoring the virtual consultations and recommendations to each user's unique needs, especially when it comes to mental health, required complex logic and thoughtful design.
- Integrating Virtual Consultations: Ensuring smooth integration with video consultation services while maintaining a secure and user-friendly interface was challenging.
- User Education: Helping users understand the importance of mental health care and the resources available to them required effective communication within the app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Holistic Health Support: The app successfully combines mental health, physical health, and baby health tracking into one seamless platform.
- Access to Virtual Healthcare: We integrated virtual consultations, providing mothers with an easily accessible way to seek help without leaving their homes.
- Empathy-Driven Design: The app’s design and user interface prioritize empathy and ease of use, helping mothers feel comfortable and supported while navigating the platform.
- Maternity Insurance Guidance: We’ve simplified the process of understanding and selecting maternity insurance by providing clear, detailed information about various plans.
What we learned
- Mental Health Awareness: We gained a deeper understanding of the mental health challenges that women face during pregnancy and the postpartum period, as well as the importance of providing accessible support.
- Building for Vulnerable Users: Designing an app for vulnerable users, like pregnant women and new mothers, requires a high level of empathy, accessibility, and security.
- Integrating Health Resources: We learned how to integrate external services (such as virtual consultations) and health resources effectively, ensuring they work harmoniously within the app.
- User Engagement: Creating an engaging experience that encourages mothers to use the app regularly and take advantage of all its features was a key learning point.
What's next for Maternity & Baby Hub
- Smart Watch Integration with OMI: We aim to integrate with wearable devices, such as fitness trackers, to monitor health metrics in real time and deliver more personalized care recommendations.
- Mobile App Development: Moving forward, we will develop a mobile app version of Maternity & Baby Hub to make it more accessible on the go.
