Inspiration

Many new mothers—especially those without strong support systems—struggle to access reliable guidance during pregnancy and the early postpartum period. In many communities, mothers must rely on scattered information across the internet, which can be overwhelming and sometimes inaccurate. MaternalFoster was inspired by the idea of creating a centralized, easy-to-use platform that provides essential maternal support resources in one place. The goal is to make reliable maternal guidance more accessible, especially for mothers who may feel unsupported or isolated.

What it does

MaternalFoster is a web platform designed to support mothers during pregnancy and the early postpartum period. The platform provides curated information and guidance on key topics such as prenatal care, preparing for childbirth, and caring for both the mother and newborn during the first week after birth. By organizing this information into clear and accessible sections, MaternalFoster helps mothers quickly find the guidance they need during critical stages of early motherhood.

How we built it

We built MaternalFoster as a responsive web application using modern web development tools. The interface was designed with React to create modular components and a clean user experience. Firebase was used for hosting and deployment, allowing us to quickly publish and manage the application online. We focused on structuring the content clearly and designing an intuitive layout so users can easily navigate through different stages of maternal care.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was deciding how to organize maternal health information in a way that is both simple and meaningful for users. Maternal care involves many topics, and it was important to present only the most essential information without overwhelming users. Another challenge was designing a clean and accessible interface that would allow mothers to quickly locate the information they need during stressful or time-sensitive situations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of building a platform that simplifies maternal support information into a clear and accessible format. By focusing on essential stages such as prenatal preparation and the first week of postpartum care, MaternalFoster provides targeted guidance where it is often needed most. We are also proud of successfully deploying the platform online so it can be accessed easily by users.

What we learned

Through building MaternalFoster, we learned how important clear organization and accessibility are when presenting health-related information. We also gained experience building and deploying a web application using React and Firebase. Most importantly, we learned how technology can be used to support real-world health challenges by making essential information easier to access.
