## Inspiration Pregnancy is a beautiful yet challenging journey filled with physical and emotional changes. We were inspired by the need for a simple, supportive, and trustworthy tool that helps pregnant women monitor their symptoms and feel more confident. Many existing apps are too medical, cluttered, or impersonal. Maternal was built to be warm, easy to use, and reassuring — like a digital companion throughout pregnancy.
What it does
Maternal is a web app designed to help pregnant women:
Log daily symptoms on a calendar-based tracker.
Receive instant feedback on whether a symptom is typical or needs medical attention.
Access personalized tips for symptom relief, nutrition, and wellness.
Get expert-backed dietary recommendations, safe exercise ideas, and hydration reminders.
Create a personal profile to receive condition-specific insights based on age, weight, height, and pregnancy stage.
How we built it
Frontend: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for a fast and responsive interface.
Authentication: Firebase Authentication to manage secure Sign Up and Log In.
Hosting: Deployed on Vercel for quick, seamless deployment.
Collaboration: We used GitHub to manage our source code and work collaboratively.
We also incorporated clean, gentle visual design with illustrations to create a friendly and calming user experience.
Challenges we ran into
Designing symptom feedback that is informative but not alarming.
Creating an interface that feels medically accurate while remaining warm and welcoming.
Ensuring the authentication flow was both secure and user-friendly.
Building a visually clear symptom tracker, especially on mobile devices.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a live prototype with full user authentication, symptom tracking, and personalized wellness advice.
Designing an intuitive and soothing user interface that resonates with our target audience.
Receiving encouraging early feedback from potential users who appreciated the simplicity and usefulness of the app.
What we learned
How to design for a sensitive and niche user group with empathy.
Efficient use of Firebase for rapid authentication setup.
Best practices in team collaboration using GitHub for version control.
The value of balancing visual design with real utility in a health-focused app.
