Inspiration
I did not know that fast fashion could be so horrible until I read about Shein's backstory. The impact that fast fashion has on the environment is no joke, it was found that 10% of global carbon emissions is due to fast fashion. I was inspired to build something that can reduce the effects of fast fashion on the environment. That is how material flow was born.
What it does
It is an app where you can find sustainable clothing to buy, rent your clothes out or get clothes on rent, for example, if you have an important meeting and need formal clothes, you can just get it on rent. The app also has an option to thrift clothes. All of these features help build a more mindful young community and make the environment greener.
How we built it
The web app was built using:
- Html
- CSS
- Javascript.
- The mobile app was built using figma.
Challenges we ran into
- Completing the project on time since I did it alone.
- Aligning the elements properly.
- Getting the UI/UX right.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Integrating HTML and CSS well.
- Learning technicalities of web app development
- Building a functional prototype.
What we learned
I learned the impact of our choices on the environment and learned that we should be more mindful of our choices, even when it comes to things like makeup and the clothes we wear. I also learned a lot of technical things about building apps.
What's next for Material Flow
Add more clothing options, make it much more functional, deploy it and maybe pitch it to investors.
