Inspiration
The inspiration came from my personal frustration with recipe discovery (websites). Every time I searched for a simple recipe, I'd get buried in endless blog posts filled with life stories - "My grandmother used to make this every Sunday..." - just to find a basic ingredient list. When I saw Reddit posts with hundreds of upvotes complaining about the same problem ("5000 word essays that tell you to add the freaking egg"), I realized this wasn't just my problem - it was affecting millions of people daily.
What it does
MatchMyMeals is a hybrid-sided AI-powered recipe platform that revolutionizes recipe discovery:
For Food Lovers:
- Voice-Powered Search: Say "healthy weekend breakfast ideas" and get exactly what you need
- Semantic AI Search: Understands cooking intent and context, not just keywords
- Audio Instructions: Listen to step-by-step cooking guidance with AI text-to-speech
- Smart Organization: Create custom recipe boards, save favorites, track cooking journey
- Social Discovery: Follow creators and get personalized recommendations
For Recipe Creators:
- Professional Dashboard: Complete analytics with geographic insights and engagement metrics
- AI-Enhanced Content: Intelligent description enhancement for better recipe presentation
- Revenue Opportunities: Multi-stream monetization launching Q1 2026
- Community Building: Grow following and establish culinary brand
The platform serves both sides of the recipe ecosystem - people looking for great food and creators wanting to share their passion profitably.
How we built it
Built entirely solo using Bolt.new with basic prior web development experience in just 15 days:
Tech Stack:
- Frontend: React + Tailwind CSS via Bolt.new (React bits / 21st.dev)
- Backend: Supabase (PostgreSQL, authentication, Edge Functions, PgVector Extension)
- AI Integration: Gemini API + OpenAI Embedding model for semantic search and content enhancement
- Voice Features: Web Speech API for voice search + ElevenLabs for text-to-speech
- Deployment: Bolt.new hosting with custom domain
Challenges we ran into
- Learning full-stack development from scratch - Had to master React, database design, API integration, and deployment simultaneously
- AI integration complexity - Implementing semantic search with proper vector embeddings and ensuring accurate intent understanding
- Voice feature reliability - Getting Web Speech API to work consistently across different browsers and accents
- Database architecture - Designing efficient schemas for dual user types (consumers vs creators) with complex relationships
- Real-time analytics - Building live tracking systems for recipe views, saves, and geographic data
Platform Challenges:
- Balancing simplicity with functionality - Creating an intuitive UX while offering professional creator tools
- Content moderation planning - Designing systems for quality control as the platform scales
- Mobile responsiveness - Ensuring all features work seamlessly across devices
- Performance optimization - Managing load times with AI processing and real-time features
Personal Challenges:
- Time pressure - Building a production-ready platform in one week while learning to code
- Feature scope management - Deciding what to include in MVP vs future releases
- Solo development - Managing all aspects from design to deployment without a team
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Semantic search engine using vector embeddings for contextual understanding
- Dual dashboard architecture with role-based access control
- Real-time analytics tracking views, saves, and geographic distribution
- Multimodal AI integration (voice input, text processing, audio output)
- Complete social platform with following, boards, and community features

Product Development Insights:
- Market validation importance - Real user pain points (like Reddit complaints) are gold for product direction
- Platform thinking - Building for multiple user types (consumers + creators) creates stronger network effects
- MVP scoping - Focus on core value proposition first, then add advanced features
- Community-driven content - User-generated content scales better than AI-generated alternatives
Business Model Learnings:

- Multiple revenue streams - Diversified monetization reduces risk and increases creator earning potential
- Market timing - Entering established markets with better UX can disrupt incumbents
- Sustainable competitive advantage - AI + community + creator economy creates strong moats
Personal Growth:
- Execution over perfection - Ship working solutions rather than perfect ones
- Problem-first thinking - Start with real user problems, not cool technology
