Inspiration
The inspiration for MatchHire came from a shared frustration with the modern job market's inefficiencies. On one side, we saw talented friends and colleagues struggling to get noticed, spending countless hours tailoring their CVs for Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) with little success. On the other, we heard from hiring managers who were overwhelmed by a flood of irrelevant applications, making it nearly impossible to find the perfect candidate quickly.
This disconnect is a massive friction point in the global economy. We were inspired by the idea that AI could be the bridge. What if we could use technology to not just find the right keywords, but to genuinely understand skills and potential on both sides of the hiring equation? That's when we envisioned a platform that could create perfect matches instantly, helping people land their dream jobs and companies build their dream teams.
What it does
MatchHire is an instant, skill-based hiring platform designed to serve both job seekers and employers with unprecedented efficiency.
For Companies: An employer can submit a detailed job description, and our AI immediately scans our database of pre-qualified candidates. Within seconds, it delivers a ranked shortlist of the best-matched individuals based on a deep analysis of their skills and experience, not just keyword-stuffing. This turns a weeks-long screening process into an instant action.
For Job Seekers: Candidates can join our platform and get discovered by top companies. The magic happens when they apply for a job. Our AI analyzes the job description and generates a newly optimized, professionally tailored version of their CV, specifically designed to highlight the most relevant skills and pass through automated screening systems. This gives every candidate their best shot at landing an interview.
Our tagline says it all: “Instant Matches. Better Hires.”
How we built it
This project was brought to life during this hackathon using a modern, agile tech stack designed for rapid development and scalability:
- Frontend: We used
bolt.newto quickly build an elegant and intuitive user interface. Its component-based architecture allowed us to create seamless, distinct flows for both candidates and employers. - Backend & Database: We chose
Supabaseas our backend-as-a-service. Its powerful PostgreSQL database, authentication, and instant APIs provided a robust foundation for managing our candidate and company data securely. Deployment: The entire platform is deployed on
Netlify, enabling continuous integration and delivery. This allowed us to push updates and new features seamlessly throughout the hackathon.AI Engine: The core of our platform is powered by advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) models. These models are responsible for parsing and understanding the semantics of both CVs and job descriptions to drive our matching and CV-generation engine.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was the time constraint of the hackathon. Building a two-sided platform with a sophisticated AI engine is ambitious. Specifically, we faced hurdles in:
- AI Algorithm Fine-Tuning: Ensuring the matching algorithm was providing truly high-quality matches—and that the AI-generated CVs were genuinely improved and professional—required intense tuning and testing.
- API Integrations: Juggling multiple APIs (Supabase, our NLP model's API) and ensuring they communicated flawlessly under a tight deadline was a significant technical challenge. Plus the free API subscription is also one challenge with tokens ending for the day.
- UX for Two Audiences: Designing a user experience that felt intuitive and valuable for both a recruiter and a job seeker required careful thought and several iterations to get right.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite the challenges, we are incredibly proud of what we've built in such a short period:
- We have a fully functional end-to-end prototype that demonstrates our core value proposition.
- The "AI Improved My CV" feature works, and the results are compelling enough to be shared. We believe this will be a powerful engine for organic growth.
- We successfully created a dual-sided platform that provides clear, immediate value to both user groups.
What we learned
This hackathon was a phenomenal learning experience. We learned:
- The immense power of modern development frameworks like
bolt.newand BaaS platforms likeSupabaseto accelerate the journey from idea to product. - The deep complexities of applied NLP. It's one thing to talk about AI, but another to implement it to understand the nuanced language of skills, experience, and job requirements.
- The critical importance of focusing on a core user problem. By relentlessly focusing on the "matching" problem, we were able to build something truly useful.
What's next for MatchHire — Instant Skill-Based Hiring Platform
The future is bright for MatchHire. Our next steps are focused on growth and refinement:
- Expand the Talent Pool: We plan to partner with universities, coding bootcamps, and professional organizations to onboard a diverse and highly skilled pool of candidates.
- Subscription Business Model: We plan to make some of the features a subscription based so that we can get more revenue which will help us modernize the app and add more features.
- Refine the AI: With more data, we will continuously improve the accuracy of our matching and CV-generation algorithms.
- Build Employer-Side Features: We will add more tools for companies, such as integrated interview scheduling and communication portals and more.
- Build Employee-Side Features: We will add more tools for employees, such as AI cover letter generator, career path planner and more.
- Lean into Virality: We will build out the social sharing feature, making it easy for users to post their "before and after" CV success stories and fuel our growth.
- Build Mobile apps: We will build an Android and iOS app for further reachability.
We are confident that MatchHire has the potential to fundamentally change how hiring is done, making it faster, fairer, and more effective for everyone involved.
