Inspiration
Upon seeing expert predictions that 1/4 of students in Lithuania will not pass the national mathematics exam, I realised just how broken our education system is. I then decided to look into the tools available for struggling students and was greatly disappointed. I believe tutoring is the best way to learn outside of school, however all of the tutoring agencies currently operating in Lithuania are outdated and unattractive to both students and tutors. So I decided to create a solution.
What it does
MatchEd takes independent tutors and students, and pairs them up into perfect matches based on criteria such as budgets and individual needs. MatchEd then provides implemented AI tools that help tutors teach and students learn every step of the way. This way tutors are not left all alone during lessons and students get better lessons and personalized learning material. In MatchEd we believe, that this hybrid model of teaching and learning is the future of the whole educational system worldwide.
How we built it
MatchEd came to life thanks to generous sponsors who supplied tools (Lovable) that provided step by step guidance for building an app with no prior coding experience.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge was to get the AI features to work and handle bugs with no coding knowledge. Another big issue was time management, since I participated solo.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud to say that even though MatchEd is not perfect yet, it is a step towards personalized learning tailored to each student's individual needs. It is also the first app in Lithuania providing a hybrid model of teaching with both human tutors and AI co-tutors.
What we learned
During this project I learned the importance of a good team that can provide support and take over some tasks, since this time I did everything alone.
What's next for MatchEd
Now, MatchEd will be further developed to make the most AI features available for smarter teaching and faster learning.
