Inspiration
Match Room started with a simple question: what if you joined a cricket match late and could catch up without having the result spoiled? A normal replay shows what happened, but it doesn’t always explain why a moment mattered.
What it does
Match Room turns a completed cricket match into a spoiler-safe, ball-by-ball replay for Fire TV on Vega OS. Viewers can follow the score and over timeline, jump to key moments already reached in the replay, see stats and innings insights, and ask focused questions using on-screen choices.
How it works
The Vega OS app presents the replay and match information. A TypeScript backend builds a deterministic match state from Cricsheet ball-by-ball data. For supported questions, Amazon Bedrock generates short explanations from the match context available at the current replay position. Spoiler checks and fixed summaries provide safeguards when an answer cannot be used.
Challenges and what we learned
The main challenge was keeping every score, statistic, and answer tied to the replay cursor, so later events never appear early. We also had to make playback, seeking, and sheets work naturally with a TV remote. When Claude Haiku 4.5 access through AWS Marketplace was blocked, we tested Qwen3 32B through Bedrock Converse and kept Amazon Nova Lite as the fallback.
Current scope
This demo replays one completed match: Kolkata Knight Riders vs Rajasthan Royals, IPL 2024. Match selection and live match support are future plans; live coverage would require a licensed ball-by-ball data source.
