In this day and age, we recognize that it is difficult to find people to study with from your classes! Meet MA+CH, a solution to all of your study-buddy searches.
What it does
MA+CH is a mobile community-building app that revolutionizes the way that college students find and meet potential study buddies. It allows you to make a profile and search for people based on characteristics in their profile. For example, my name is Jennifer and I am studying computer science. I'm taking a class called "COMP 330" and I don't know anyone in the class :( Do I just randomly go up to people and ask them to study with me? Maybe I would've before this weekend, but now that I have MA+CH, I can go on it and look for people also studying CS who might be in my class! The best part? MA+CH only shows me people in my university with the exact specifications I want, so if I don't want to study with someone two years older than me, I don't have to.
How I built it
MA+CH is built through using a combination of languages and tools including Flutter, Dart, Android Studio, Google Cloud, and Visual Studio Code.
Challenges I ran into
Some of the challenges we ran into during our hacking process was integrating our data from Flutter into Firebase, optimizing performance and speed, and learning how to install and use modern development technology to meet our goals in developing the mobile app. Another challenge we faced was also having to work virtually, but we are proud that we were able to make a functioning app under such circumstances.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
One of the accomplishments that we are proud of is definitely the design and sleekness of the app, which allows our audience to easily navigate through the interface in order to find new study buddies! Another success that we experienced is the ability to work closely with each other in a remote environment.
What I learned
Throughout the PennApps Hackathon, we learned to adapt quickly, while working remotely whether that be in learning how to utilize newer technologies and tools or gaining experience in mobile app development under a Google Cloud and Firebase environment.
What's next for MA+CH
Next up, MA+CH takes on the real world! Platforms are great and there are endless new good ideas for them, but the problem is getting people onto the platform. How do we attact students? We bribe them of course. For every match you make, we will donate $0.01 to a charity. A penny might not be much, but it adds up over time! We will fund this through the use of ads.
