Inspiration

Match Mansion was born from a simple question: what if a party game could feel truly alive in XR?
We wanted to create the first XR Party Simulator, where players experience the excitement of planning a wild night, meeting new people, and flirting their way through an unpredictable social adventure, all powered by AI and immersive MR/VR transitions.

Traditional social simulators like House Party (a clear inspiration) have proven the commercial appeal of character-driven flirting sandboxes. But we felt XR could elevate the concept to a new level: real-time interaction, natural proximity, body language, and spatial immersion turn social play into something deeper, more dynamic, and more personal.
That’s how Match Mansion became an experience where you make the rules, you choose the vibe, and you decide who you leave the night with.

How We Built It

The project blends Mixed Reality and Virtual Reality into one seamless experience. Players begin in their real bedroom using MR to plan the party, pick themes, and curate a VIP guest list. From there, they step through the “Mansion Door” into the fully virtual mansion where the party unfolds. Finally, depending on their choices and connections, they may return to their room with a special guest, back in MR.

We developed the game in Unity, combining MR passthrough, spatial mapping, and VR environments to create a hybrid flow that feels natural.
Our AI-powered guests are at the heart of the experience: each character has a unique personality, backstory, and flirting style. They react dynamically to the player’s movements, conversations, and mini-game performance. NPCs also interact with each other, creating a living party atmosphere that never plays out the same way twice.

We implemented a variety of social mini-games, cards, darts, pool, and more, to keep interactions engaging and varied. A “matchability system” tracks how well players connect with different guests, letting them build affinity over the course of the night.

Challenges

One of the biggest design challenges was crafting a believable transition between MR → VR → MR while maintaining player comfort and narrative continuity. The bedroom needed to feel grounded in the player’s own real space, while the mansion demanded stylized visuals, expressive characters, and active social gameplay.

Building AI-driven characters that feel responsive without overwhelming the player was another challenge. Ensuring that NPCs react to body language, gaze, proximity, and gestures in real time required careful balancing of behavior trees and conversational triggers.

We also had to design mini-games that remained intuitive and fun both in VR spaces and in close-quarters MR scenes.

What We Learned

We learned that XR social design must prioritize natural interaction above all. Subtle gestures, proxemics, and environmental storytelling matter more than complex UI. We also discovered how powerful AI personalities can be when combined with immersive environments, small reactions create big emotional impact.
Finally, building a hybrid MR–VR experience taught us to carefully manage pacing and transitions to avoid breaking immersion.

What’s Next

Our vision for Match Mansion includes:

  • Deeper AI personalities with evolving preferences and branching relationship paths.
  • More mini-games and interactive party activities.
  • New themed parties, costumed events, and mansion areas.
  • Expanded cast with new character types and personalities.
  • Progression systems and long-term replayability.
  • Eventually, a full commercial release that becomes the definitive XR social flirting simulator.

Match Mansion aims to push the boundaries of XR social gameplay, creating unforgettable nights, every time you put on the headset.
