Inspiration

The inspiration was other social deduction games like saboteur and dead of winter alongside the theme of colour changes everything

What it does

The game is a social deduction based card game where a team of Artists are racing to paint bucket stores to bring coloured buckets of paint back to the home base in order to paint a masterpiece however there are a team of Art thieves attempting to stop them. Players use tile cards to build coloured paths across the board from the home base to the paint stores and then traverse these paths to collect the paint buckets. Each player rolls 3 dice which represent the actions they are able to take on their turn. There are also item cards which allow players to break and fix each others paint brushes, glue people in place, paint over path to change its colour and increase dice rolls. The Artists win if they get 2 paint buckets of each colour back to home base. The Art Thieves win if it becomes impossible for the Artists to win or the rounds have all been completed.

How we built it

We brainstormed the rules together and then digitally designed the cards before printing them double sided on card. We then play tested the game to determine the ratios of Artists to Art Thieves, the round limit and changed some other rules.

Challenges we ran into

Printing double sided on card as it was difficult to align the front and the back images. Having to change rules that we decided on initially that did not work.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Completing the game in the time limit. Having the game work and the rules make the game playable. Being able to gather a group of people who did not know the game to play test it. Creating the video to explain the game. Having the game be actually fun!

What we learned

How to print double sided on card. Improved art skills and learned how to use and manipulate digital art. The importance of playtesting. The importance of delegating and roles.

What's next for Masterpiece

Hopefully more playtesting to fine tune the numbers and timings and to receive feedback on anything we could add to the game to make it more fun.
