Inspiration
Living in a community where emergency response time can mean life or death, I saw a gap: CPR training is often time-consuming, expensive, or hard to access for everyday people. I wanted to make life-saving skills accessible to anyone, anywhere—no medical background needed, no lengthy classes, just a phone and 10 minutes.
What it does
CPR Anytime is a mobile-first app that delivers certification-level CPR and AED training. It guides users step-by-step through international CPR standards with real-time AI feedback on hand position and compression rhythm, plus AED tutorials and certification practice quizzes to build confidence and proficiency.
How we built it
We started by mapping international CPR guidelines to a streamlined, mobile-friendly workflow. We used React Native for cross-platform compatibility, integrated smartphone motion/touch sensors to track technique, and built a metronome system for 100–120 bpm compression guidance. We designed a minimalist UI with medical-grade clarity and added a one-time purchase model for full access.
Challenges we ran into
Calibrating sensor feedback to match real-world CPR technique was tough—we needed to balance accuracy with ease of use for non-technical users. We also had to simplify medical jargon without compromising safety guidelines, ensuring the app was both accessible and compliant.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating an app that makes life-saving training available to everyone, regardless of time or budget. The AI-guided feedback system works seamlessly on everyday phones, and users can complete full CPR/AED training in just 10 minutes—something traditional classes can’t match.
What we learned
We learned how to translate complex medical protocols into intuitive mobile experiences, and the importance of centering accessibility in emergency training tools. We also gained insight into monetizing niche, life-saving apps while keeping core previews free for community impact.
What's next for this project
We plan to expand the quiz library with region-specific CPR guidelines, add audio-only mode for low-data users, and partner with local emergency services to align the app with community training programs. We’re also exploring offline access to ensure training is available in all situations.
