Inspiration

As kids, my partner and I have always viewed math as something foreign to us – something beyond our understanding. Years later, we finally recognize and appreciate the potential of mathematics. We saw this hackathon as an opportunity to try and develop a preliminary platform to share with others the skills that we’ve been able to learn over the years.

What it does

Targeted towards younger audiences, Massive Lotus Mathematics is made for young children to develop an understanding of the curriculum requirements for their grades. Due to the current pandemic, everyone is beginning to learn online. This website is designed to help kids ease into virtual learning models. There is an explanation for concepts within the requirements for the grade – based on the Ontario mathematics curriculum.

How we built it

: Our website was built using HTML and CSS on Microsoft Visual Studio using the skills we learned during the 7WC Web-Dev workshops.

Challenges we ran into

In the start, we weren't able to figure out how to use hyperlinks to lead to the separate pages. It would display that the file could not be found, but eventually, we were able to troubleshoot and figure it out.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that we persisted and did not die of insomnia :)

What we learned

We learned how to embed hyperlinks and make tables within HTML.

What's next for Massive Lotus Mathematics

We hope to continue to evolve this website by introducing new programs over time, such as expanding into grades 4 and up, as well as other parts of the curriculum, as we learn new skills for HTML coding.
